Our PC Access Control solutions have been designed to prevent access to the network by users known to be off-site and to secure 'idle' PCs.
PCs that are 'logged on' and left unattended pose a serious risk to organisations, with confidential information commonly left visible to passers-by. Perhaps more worrying is that unattended PCs facilitate unauthorised access to local and network files, which can have disastrous consequences both commercial and personal.
IBM and others now believe the greatest risk to IT security is from 'within'. Screensavers alone are not the answer because of the settings conflict - short delays are a nuisance, long delays weaken security.
The Alpha-ID way to securing your PC and Network is much smarter; it ensures that PC / Network access is only permitted whilst the user is in (and remains within) the vicinity of the PC. This is achieved by equipping users with a smart, vicinity card and verifying their location by a reader fitted either to the PC, or to the office doorway. Alpha-ID offers both solutions, but strongly recommends the latter; i.e. one where the user must carry their card in order to enter / exit the area. This system cannot be defeated by users leaving their card on their desk, and is available as a simple add-on to one of our fully integrated facilities management and reporting systems.
